World Curriculum by Comparative Education Societies (World Curriculum)

Introduction:

Organized as an NGO by seven member societies of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies (WCCES), WORLD CURRICULUM is a non-profit association that, aims to create a world curriculum on the principles of equality, social justice, peace, harmony, and cooperation; conduct comparative education research with a focus on curriculum and assessment for continual revision of the world curriculum; disseminate the world curriculum and associated assessments to the people worldwide.

Many people in the world have the privilege of having at least one educational option based on either a national curriculum, a provincial/ state curriculum, or an international curriculum. However, for the underprivileged, there is none.

WORLD CURRICULUM has the ambitious goal of reaching out to the poorest of the poor throughout the world with an educational option that is affordable, easily accessible, stress-free, and presents an authentic worldview while retaining the local roots. Most importantly, it aims to inculcate the ethos, morals and values imperative for leading a peaceful, virtuous and fulfilling life.

A 2020 report of OECD on Curriculum Overload presented a grim picture of the curricula of various countries in terms of how curricula have expanded as the overall knowledge base in various streams continues to grow exponentially. Naturally, it impacts the creative abilities as well as critical thinking on part of learners, who struggle to cope up with pressures of completing the syllabus in a given time frame.

At World Curriculum, a concerted approach to reduce this burden in curriculum was taken through comparative studies of various national/ international curricula and by eliminating irrelevant topics with little pragmatic value in the current times. Most importantly, emphasis has been placed on inculcating morals, ethics, and values in individuals through a global perspective with local roots.

The pedagogy promoted by World Curriculum is that, learning by reading content written in simple terms allows a lot of flexibility to learn at one’s own pace, for example, skimming through material already known, or spending more time on a particular section of personal interest.

At World Curriculum, one of the objectives is to make the learning process an enjoyable and stress-free experience for the learners. Accordingly, continual assessments through technological interfaces are deployed just to make sure that the learners are simply “reading” rather than memorizing. In nutshell, assessments should be a ‘celebration of learning’ without any phobia or stress.
