ABOUT EMCA
The European Mosquito Control Association (EMCA) gathers professionals and experts from Europe and beyond with the aim of strengthening cooperation in the technical and operational aspects of mosquito control.

EMCA is a non-profit association registered in Strasbourg, France. It was founded in March 2000 in Waldsee, Germany and has members from Europe, the Middle East, Africa and USA.
 
The overall objective of EMCA is to promote the effective and efficient control of mosquitoes and related subjects, and to disseminate affiliated information to its members and others in Europe and neighbouring regions.

The specific objectives of EMCA are as follows:
● Improvement of the life quality of the European population by reducing the mosquito nuisance level.
● Promotion of European cooperation and participation in mosquito control projects in Europe, and also developing countries.
● Promotion of the study, prevention and control of mosquito-borne diseases.
● Development and implementation of new materials, techniques and tools for mosquito control.
●Enhancing control measures based on Integrated Pest Management principles by favouring methods with a low toxicological profile and low environmental impact.
● Preservation of wetland biodiversity by the selective use of mosquito control materials and methods, and the promotion of effective long-term management techniques for natural areas.
● Specification, development and standardisation of the rules of good laboratory and field practice in the testing and application of insecticides, sampling methods, monitoring techniques, treatment procedures and other control measures.
● Organization of educational and training courses, visits and staff exchanges between the members of the association, in order to attain better professional skills in accordance with EMCA aims.
● Promotion of public and governmental awareness campaigns relating to mosquito control and associated subjects.
● Promotion of any mosquito-related activities with respect to research, evaluation and expertise.
● General promotion and support of the information exchange between professionals, experts and those working in the field in accordance with EMCA objectives, including the publication of relevant documents, reports or papers, and the organization of applicable events, exhibitions and meetings which promote the objectives of EMCA.

INFORMATION
EMCA maintains strong links and collaboration with international organizations, associations and institutions such as WHO (World Health Organization), SOVE (Society for Vector Ecology), E-SOVE (European Society for Vector Ecology), ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control), CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), AMCA (American Mosquito Control Association), and PAMCA (Pan-African Mosquito Control Association) is considered an important issue for any professional dealing with the control of potential vectors of a plentitude of diseases that threaten human health.

PROFESSIONALISM
EMCA is an association with members in 22 European countries and 8 countries in other parts of the world representing vector control professionals, researchers, educators, industry representatives, and students.

The overall objectives of EMCA are to promote professionalism in mosquito control, to provide information about mosquitoes and other related organisms and provide education leading to the reduction of annoyance levels caused by mosquitoes and other vectors and pests of public health importance and thus to the enhancement of health and life quality.

The European Mosquito Control Association, founded in 2000, is a scientific/educational, non profit association operating under the corporation laws of France (Strasbourg). The majority of its members are in Europe but it is an “open” association and anyone may join. Under its bylaws, any agency, organization, institution, association or individual involved in mosquito control and related subjects and interested in the goals of the association may become a member of the EMCA. The Board is composed of 9 members. The seven voting members of the Board are the acting President, the past President, the President-elect, and four members and two non-voting members the Executive Officer and the Treasurer.

EMCA is not governmental nor is it subject to political control, but its services are provided mainly to public agencies and their principal staff members engaged in mosquito control, mosquito research and related activities. However, services are equally available to any agency, company or individual that may request any information or services that EMCA can provide.
Internship Tasks:
The specific work will depend on students’ skills and background. Support for general activities could be done targeting some scientific publication, with paper research, writing procedures and things like this. The specific content of the internship depends on the needs at that time.

Requirements:
● Bachelor’s degree (completed/ongoing). Major in Biology, Biological Sciences and Biotechnology or Medicine, etc.
● Fluency in spoken and written English
● Strong interpersonal and English communicative skills
● Have research experience and paper writing ability is preferred
● Proficiency in MS software (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
