International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR)

ABOUT
The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) is an independent intergovernmental organisation. It is the only one in the world to gather scientific and technical knowledge in every sector of refrigeration.
Founded in 1908, it has developed a worldwide network of leading experts.

MISSION
The IIR is committed to disseminating knowledge of refrigeration to improve the quality of life for all, while respecting the environment and taking into account economic imperatives.
The IIR has resolutely stepped up its efforts to become a major global player taking action to implement sustainable refrigeration in all its uses. This is evidenced by the report on the IIR’s 2021 actions according to the UN Sustainable Development Goals available.

NATIONAL, REGIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS
Over the past 10 years, the IIR has been a key consortium partner in international, European and national funded projects. These projects further support the core mission of the IIR to disseminate knowledge on refrigeration in order to improve the quality of life in a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable manner.
As the communication leader, the IIR promotes and disseminates the outcomes of international, European and national projects throughout its worldwide network, activities and services and in this framework:
● Develops and implements communication strategies (traditional and digital)
● Organises and facilitates project workshops at IIR conferences and co-sponsored conferences
● Facilitates the publication of academic papers in the International Journal of Refrigeration (IJR)
● Disseminates project news through IIR digital communications supports and social media
● Promotes projects at trade exhibitions, international meetings and conferences
● Creates and disseminates final project outcomes.
Project for an Informatory Note on employment in the refrigeration sector
The intern will be responsible for the preparation of an Informatory Note on employment in the refrigeration sector.

Description of Informatory Note:
This Informatory Note should present both the different professions that make up this sector as well as the qualifications and certifications corresponding to these professions in the main countries. Figures on employment in the refrigeration sector should be provided at global level and in the main countries.
This different information may be obtained from bibliographical research and through contacts with experts from the IIR’s international network.
A detailed Annex to this Informatory Note will also be prepared: it will detail all the results obtained as part of this work, which will be synthesized in the Informatory Note (qualifications and employment figures by country, etc.)

Suggested contents for the Informatory Note
(1) Generalities:
● The role of the refrigeration sector
● Domains: industrial, commercial, domestic refrigeration, air conditioning,
heat pumps, food refrigeration, health, cryogenics, liquefied gases…
(2) Careers:
● Research, design, development
● Sales, after sales service
● Management of projects, installation
● Servicing, maintenance, repair…
(3) Qualifications
● Educational level and diplomas: engineer, technician…
● Qualifications, certifications (standards, regulations for the main countries: USA, China, main European countries (at least one or two countries per continent)
(4) Employment figures
● Employment figures in the refrigeration sector at the global level and for the main countries
● Direct and indirect jobs should be distinguished.

IIR Informatory Notes: Rules and procedures to follow
IIR Informatory Notes (INs) are summarizing documents written in a clear and concise manner with the primary goal of providing policy makers with objective information and recommendations on important current refrigeration issues.
Typically, an IN consists 6 to 8 pages on average and 10 pages maximum per language, including figures. It represents 3000 to 5000 words maximum, excluding figures.
The IN shall include an introduction and a conclusion section.
It shall also include a short summary (140 words maximum), which will be presented on the first page, and the “IIR recommendations” (200 words maximum), which will be presented on the last page.
In addition to the IN itself, a shorter document (1 or 2 pages maximum) entitled “Summary for Decision Makers” will be prepared for non-specialist audiences and disseminated to representatives of ministries and embassies, along with national refrigeration associations.
All factual information (including figures) shall be supported by complete references (publication, author, date) to the examined literature (peer-reviewed articles).
All illustrations, graphs and images should, where possible be provided in good quality (high definition) and sources should be clearly stated, whether created by the author or not.
The draft Informatory Note will be reviewed by representatives of the IIR Science and Technology Council for validation before publication.

Requirements:
● Bachelor’s degree (completed/ongoing)
● Good command of interpersonal and English communicative skills
● Rigor, good spirit of synthesis.
● Editorial fluency.
● Proficiency in MS software (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
