Intra-Africa Metrology System (AFRIMETS)

About IPWSO:
IPWSO is an international non-profit membership organisation supporting national Prader-Willi syndrome associations, as well as people with PWS, their families and the professionals who work with them.

As an international umbrella organisation we bring together the national Prader-Willi associations, and for countries where there are no formal associations, we support medical and parent delegates as part of our global community. IPWSO has contacts in over 100 countries, and is a world-wide parent-led support organisation. One of our key projects is to offer free diagnosis for PWS in countries where this is not available.

About Prader-Willi syndrome:
Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a rare, genetically determined and complex neurodevelopmental syndrome that is apparent at birth and associated with a range of health problems affecting different systems of the body. It affects all races and both sexes equally. There are very marked differences in the level of knowledge and services for people with PWS around the world giving rise to marked health inequalities globally.

Our Vision
A world where people with PWS and their families receive the services and support they need to fulfil their potential and achieve their goals.

Our Mission
To unite the global PWS community to collectively find solutions to the challenges of the syndrome and to support and advocate for people with PWS and their families, PWS associations, and professionals who work with people with PWS.
We offer a flexible approach whereby the intern can bring their knowledge, skills and interests to the role and help determine the scope and nature of their project. They will gain an insight into all aspects of our work and we also would encourage them to attend a meeting of our Trustees and present their work to them, which is a great experience.

We have outlined three areas below and can adapt these ideas around the skills and interests of the student:
1. Social media: helping to plan, design and create social media posts including short videos. Develop a strategy for growing our profile on Twitter. Identifying ways we could use social media in new ways.
2. Marketing: supporting the marketing of our international conference. Creating materials, identifying opportunities, supporting our Conference Manager.

We are a friendly team and would be keen to support building the intern’s skills as well as giving them plenty of exposure to the English language and day to day work experience at a busy non-profit organisation.
