SEAMEO Regional Centre for Technical Education Development (SEAMEO TED)

Introduction:
Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education Youth and Sport of the Kingdom of Cambodia signed on the Memorandum of Agreement and Enabling Instrument to Establish SEAMEO TED at the 49th SEAMEO Council Conference on 25 July 2017 in Jakarta, Indonesia. 

Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) is an international and intergovernmental organization, established in 1965 to promote regional cooperation in education, science, and culture. To achieve this, it has developed 26 regional centers of excellence located across 10/11 Member Countries. These centers are focusing on their expertise as each offers research and development in one theme of one key area (education, science, culture).

Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Center for Technical Education Development (SEAMEO TED) is one of the 26 SEAMEO centers, which is located in the Kingdom of Cambodia. It is under umbrella of the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport and the SEAMEO Secretariat. SEAMEO TED has governing board members from 11 SEAMEO Member countries including Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. The organization’s highest policy-making body is the SEAMEO Council, which comprises the 11 Southeast Asian education ministers, and the SEAMEO Secretariat is the coordinating body. It is located in Bangkok, Thailand. 

SEAMEO TED is working on Priority Area 4 of SEAMEO

The establishment of SEAMEO TED is to support the priority area number 4 of SEAMEO member countries, 2015-2035 (Promoting technical and vocational education and training (TVET)) of the 7 priority areas. SEAMEO TED is one of 26 SEAMEO centers/networks in Southeast Asia to assist SEAMEO member countries in identifying technical education problems and finding alternative solutions for sustainable human resource development through technical education.

As an organization that has continued to nurture human capacities and explored the peoples’ fullest potential, the SEAMEO maintains its work and aspirations for development with peoples of the region to make lives better in quality and equity in education, preventive health education, culture, and tradition, information and communication technology, languages, poverty alleviation and agriculture and natural resources.

The relevant areas of SEAMEO include priority 2, addressing barriers to inclusion by providing access to basic learning opportunities to all learners through innovation in education delivery and management to provide for the previously inaccessible and vulnerable groups; priority 6, promoting harmonization in higher education and research; and priority 7, adopting a 21st-century curriculum by pursuing a radical reform through systematic analysis of knowledge, skills, and values needed to effectively respond to changing global contexts, particularly to the ever-increasing complexity of the Southeast Asian economic, sociocultural, and political environment, with ASEAN ideals in building ASEAN community.

Mision: To assist SEAMEO member countries in identifying education programs and finding alternative solutions for sustainable human resource development through the technical education

Goals:
Goal 1: To enhance collaboration and partnership in technical education among stakeholders
Goal 2: To promote research and development (R&D) in technical education at the secondary education level
Goal 3: To develop a regional center for technical education development of excellence through relevant training programs
Goal 4: To strengthen the technical education framework and effectiveness
Goal 5: To promote the roles and inclusion of technical education among stakeholders and inclusion of technical education among stakeholders
Internship Tasks:
The interns will be working in different departments based on their ability and interests. (Public Relations and Partnership Division, Technical Education and Training Division, Research and Development Division)

The general work might be like the following:
● Attend online trainings, workshops, conferences and meetings when offered 
● Read and commend on research reports 
● Conduct online surveys, data entry and evaluate quantitative and qualitative data as specified by team leaders;
● Assist and facilitate regular preparation of reports and proposals;
● Perform research data cleaning, input and processing;
● Prepare outputs and develop questionnaires, interview notes, meeting minutes, and facilitate general administrative support to the research team;● Provide inputs during the research design and contribute to literature review and report writing;
● Assist in the formulation of programme strategies, action plan and budget;
● Support effective communication, knowledge building and knowledge sharing, and collaboration of tasks and mobilisation of resources.

Requirements:
● Undergraduate/graduate students or recent university graduates, preferably in the field of education, English literature, media and communication, social sciences, or a related field
● A strong interest in research, writing and publication 
● A strong commitment for professional development and willingness to learn 
● A proficiency in English 
● Strong organizational and administrative skills
● Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
