Canadian International Institute of Applied Negotiation (CIIAN)

The Canadian International Institute of Applied Negotiation (CIIAN) is dedicated to the prevention and resolution of destructive conflict and to building sustainable peace at local, national, and international levels.
Founded in 1992 by Senator and past Ambassador to the UN for Disarmament, Douglas Roche; the Honourable Justice Mark McGuigan; and Dr. Ben Hoffman, past Director of Conflict Resolution for the Carter Center; for nearly three decades CIIAN has provided trusted expertise in peace building, mediation, negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution to thousands of people in Canada and beyond.
CIIAN is recognized as leader in the conflict resolution field through the development and use of state of the art, empirically tested methods of conflict prevention, resolution and peace building; and we are committed to transferring knowledge and competencies to those with whom we work.
All of CIIAN’s professionals are theory-informed practitioners. Experienced as facilitators, trainers, mediators, researchers and peace building consultants, their services draw upon lessons learned and best practices to design customized interventions and training programs.
