Internship Tasks:
1. Campaigns & Advocacy Intern (CAI)
Reporting to the Communications Manager, you will focus on supporting advocacy coordination across the organization, developing and disseminating internal communications, coordinating external communications products and maintaining the Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns across the network. You will need to work effectively with all thematic advisors and advocacy and campaign team members and also liaise with colleagues in different departments, including Communications, Research & Knowledge Management, as well as Marketing and other Program teams. This is a dynamic role aligned to our global campaign and advocacy work.
You will need to be an effective campaigner, with good understanding of the development sector and, ideally, Fair Trade. This will need to be backed up by effective communication and organizations skills, a flair for writing and use of social media and solid analytical skills. A second language would be a great advantage.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
● Update contacts databases and draft outreach materials to WFTO Asia FTE members & partners
● Monitor governmental/international policies and activities that are relevant to WFTO Asia’s initiatives.
● Support the development and organization of high profile influencer and campaign events.
● Draft WFTO Asia’s campaign initiatives & policy positions for FTE members and WFTO Asia network.
● Provide fast and accurate analysis of FT-related and economic policy announcements, assessing the implications for the world’s disadvantaged people.
● Brainstorm campaign actions with the Communications & VIP Team, and communicate with WFTO Asia’s supporters.
● Identify opportunities to engage our members locally and online, and support the logistical and creative planning of campaigns and communications
● Respond to public email enquiries about WFTO Asia’s ongoing campaigns & advocacies
Requirements
● On-going degree in international development, international relations, political science or similar discipline.
● Proven interest or work experience in international development and Asia.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Able to work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment while paying strong attention to detail.
● Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Outlook and Excel.
● Knowledge of, and interest in, Fair Trade and international political economy.
● Ability to consistently apply good judgment and make good and responsible decisions.
● Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times.
● Good team working and inter-personal skills

2. Research & Knowledge Management Intern (RKMI)
The Research & Knowledge Management Intern has two components: Research & Knowledge Management.
Under Research, you will
● Gather data to meet specific project objectives by using various informational sources.
● Assists in planning design instrumentation and research methodology for gathering data.
● Collects information and establishes a database to catalogue, update and retrieve data. Analyzes data to determine trend, discrepancies or other specific departmental business issues.
● Coordinates meetings with targeted audiences to identify or clarify research data or analytics, which may include committees, consultants, FTE representatives, etc.
● Authors or edits technical reports to provide a summary of findings.
● Manages data using statistical analysis processes and project management techniques. Conducts presentations and designs ancillary visual graphics to enhance reporting.
● The Knowledge Management component provides support to several ongoing knowledge management projects and support the implementation of new activities under the guidance of the Board President.
The KM Intern will support internal learning opportunities for staff and FTE member’s staff to ensure they are up to date on the current literature, have access to internal and external resources, and are active participants in communities of practice and other knowledge sharing groups.
Duties and Responsibilities
● The main duties that the intern will be expected to carry out are:
● Conduct quantitative and qualitative research on WFTO Asia’s role in promoting the 10 Principles of Fair Trade;
● Provide research, writing and editing support on issues related in skills development; Assist the organization of conferences, workshops or other events;
● Contribute to designing and implementation of initiatives, projects or programs;
● Regularly scan and analyze new literature relevant to WFTO Asia’s work to share key findings and analysis
● Write summaries and programmatic implications of new research findings
● Provide support for regular newsletter, including selection of relevant articles, development of discussion questions, and facilitating conversations.
● Coordinate communities of practice, KM working groups, and meetings of other internal groups
● Catalogue and archive technical publications, evaluation and research reports, internal knowledge products, and other materials according to internal standards.
● Prepare relevant communications materials (speeches, brochures, success stories, social media materials)
● Collaborate on the development and execution of online content (images, infographics, videos, blogs etc.) and campaigns delivered across various social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube)
● Provide administrative support on an as-needed basis;
● Other relevant tasks as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
Technical/Functional Competencies:
● Excellent writing skills, as well as strong analytical aptitude and strong communication skills;
● Ability to manage workload with minimum supervision and collaborate with a wide range of colleagues while meeting deadlines;
