Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy

Working for a world running on 100% renewables since 1983.

Our ultimate long term goal is a complete replacement of fossil fuels and atomic power with renewable energies & energy savings while promoting the sustainability, resilience and development of local communities around the world. For this purpose, we have collaborated with local civil society organisations, research and education centres, companies, professionals and governmental authorities from all over the globe for decades.

Activities:

Renewable energy training and information
Since 1983 we work for a complete replacement of fossil fuels with green technologies. Solar and wind and a wide range of other technologies, combined properly, can make a fossil-free society possible. Technology availability is, however, not sufficient to ensure the transition: education and best practices are key words, which is why, since the foundation, we form future energy experts.

Collaboration with ecopreneurs and green SMEs
A sustainable planet needs creativity and innovation – it needs ecopreneurs and green and small- and medium-size coompanies (SMEs)! If you have a brilliant idea or if you are a ecopreneur or green SME, don’t worry, you are not alone – we are here to help you!

Research and development
In the renewable energy field, like in many others, there is a constant demand for improved knowledge and solutions! We carry out research and development projects in collaboration with Danish and international universities, research centres, SMEs, local authorities and other civil society organizations to provide new solution for the green transition.

Testing and demonstration
There is no unique solution to solve all of the world’s climate and energy problems -different energy sources and renewable energy technologies have to work together! Our living lab, the Village of Green Research, demonstrates how various energy solutions can be combined to achieve the ultimate goal of 100% renewable energy.

Implementation of renewable energy in developing countries
Everybody needs clean energy! Lack of access to clean and modern types of energy is one of the main and most urgent energy challenges to be faced. We have organised solar lighting projects in Africa since 1998. Folkecenter, in cooperation with local NGOs, has installed solar systems in over 300 rural schools, but this is just the beginning!

Transfer of know-how and best practices
Let’s not reinvent the wheel! We support national and international collaboration and knowledge sharing for a fast, resource-efficient and cost-effective transition to sustainable energy systems. We collect the best available knowledge from all over the world and we help you make it yours.
Internship Tasks:
About the Programme:
The general aim of the trainee programme is to provide knowledge about a variety of aspects within renewable energies, both from the technical and the socio-economic profile. The programme is developed around the trainee, meaning that there is not a standard path, but it is a more individual process which is carried in cooperation with the trainee, focusing on his needs and requests. Folkecenter helps defining the path and can also provide suggestions on which projects to be undertaken, but self-initiative is highly appreciated. In the event that the trainee already has a specific interest or topic he would like to focus on, it is highly recommended to mention it when applying for the position. The request will be evaluated and can undergo some modifications, based on Folkecenter’s needs at the moment, but it will always be a result of a discussion between the center and the trainee.
Detailed Tasks:
● Depending on the students’ interest and on the center’s availability at the moment, it is possible to focus on most of the renewable energy fields.
● The philosophy of Folkecenter is to learn by doing, so trainees have the chance to make their experiments on real-life installations and technologies which are present at the Village for Green Research, where Folkecenter is located.
● Alternatively, desk researches can also be carried out, thanks to the large availability of relevant scientific material present at the center.
● Researches and experiments are carried out in the project form: you will be supervised by experienced people during the process, who will assist you in your path towards renewable energy knowledge. However, due to limited resources, the trainee should not expect a constant presence of the supervisor.
● During his stay at Folkecenter, the trainee will also take part in study trips to renewable energy installations located in the surroundings of the center and there will also be participation in conferences held at Folkecenter.
● In some occasions, the trainee might be requested to present the work done at events, which will be an important feature for the personal curriculum.

Requirements:
● Bachelor’s degree (completed/ongoing)
● Fluency in spoken and written English
● Interested in learning about renewable energies
● Strong interpersonal and English communicative skills
● Proficiency in MS software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power point)
