Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies (CIFS)

CIFS is an independent, non-profit futures think tank. We work toward the betterment of society by leveraging our multidisciplinary capabilities to equip and inspire individuals and organisations, decision-makers, and the public, to act on the future, today. On a strategic, long-term level, we advise our global clients and members, who include Fortune 500 companies, governments, and organisations across a broad range of sectors through scenario planning, research, and analysis. Besides our advisory services, we publish reports and magazines, host various events, organise talks, classes, and courses, and create and launch various joint-venture initiatives.

Our Purpose:
The Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies believes that the future belongs to no-one, yet to everyone. The Institute is by its charter here to actively contribute to the betterment of our society, which implies betterment for the largest possible number of people.

We define “better” through our perception of our Nordic values, which are firmly based on trust, equality, openness, integrity, and inclusiveness, and a society where critical decisions about the future are based on insights, not intuition.

The Institute works towards that betterment by leveraging our multidisciplinary capabilities to equip and inspire individuals and organisations, decision-makers and the public, to act on the future, today.

Through our independency and the explorative nature of our work, we aspire to be the principal facilitator of the future in the Nordic region and beyond. We aim to have an open and engaging global profile, be closely involved with our partners and members, government, academia, business, and the public, and build futures literacy in our society in a time when it has never been more important.

It is important to note that the Institute does not predict the future, as this by nature is impossible, but instead generates and analyses the best possible qualified assumptions for potential futures. This is the essence of futures studies.
