Worldwide Network of Artists Residencies (Res Artis)

Res Artis: Worldwide Network of Arts Residencies is a 26 year old network of arts residency operators from around the globe. Our network comprises more than 700 vetted members in over 85 countries. We operate from two international offices: the Netherlands and Australia. We are the worldwide professional body for the field, ensuring sustainability and growth by providing capacity building tools for our members through face-to-face meetings and digital platforms. We aim to support and connect residencies, engage and advocate the importance of residencies in today’s society, and provide recommendations towards cultural mobility research and policy.

Internship Tasks
Through our Intern in Residence program we work to provide Interns with professional development so they may broaden their network and skills to secure future employment within our sector. We are interested in reciprocal working relationships, where everyone collaborates and everyone benefits.

We offer four distinct Intern roles: Communications; Membership; Research; Special Projects.

1. Communications Internship
The position of Communications Intern in Residence is a role focused on the growth and development of Res Artis by way of communications. This role assists in the development and delivery of our Communications Strategy. It ensures that Res Artis communication outputs align with our mission and shared Values. Fundamental tasks include assistance with audience growth and development; use of social media and other innovative communication platforms to promote, engage and activate members; website management and improvements; and member interaction.

Potential focus projects might include Res Artis conferences or events; curation of Res Artis artist and residency organisation ‘stories’; promotion of Member Open Calls; and extrapolation of member and survey data for communication purposes.

Design work is also a possibility, subject to the intern’s skills and interests. The tasks and ways to interact with our organisation are limitless, and this role will be tailored to the successful candidate’s prior experience and desire to learn new skills and knowledge. This will ensure a mutually beneficial experience for both parties.

Member visibility and engagement: 
Provide timely and clear 
communication with Members regarding their representation on the Res Artis 
website and social media channels. This includes ensuring Member profiles 
are as accurate as possible; editing and publishing upcoming deadlines and 
news items and promoting our diverse membership across social media.

Promotion of the Res Artis brand, our mission, vision and values. 
Develop and deliver innovative and diverse communication concerning the 
Res Artis brand and our associated activities. Ensure all communications are 
consistent with the Res Artis mission, vision and values.

● 
Analysis and Reporting: 
Analyse and report on website and social media
 
statistics and trends with the aim of understanding and influencing audience
 
behaviour, as well as growing and diversifying audiences. Use diverse
 
communication platforms.

Assist in the development and delivery of Members Only
 
Newsletters, Public Newsletters, additional Member messages,

as required. 
Develop and initiate regular, innovative and interactive social
 
media posts across relevant and tailored platforms. Develop and initiate in
 
print material.

 
Research and pilot new communications tools 
that help Res Artis achieve
 
our objectives.


2. Membership Internship

The position of Membership Intern in Residence is a role focused on the growth and development of Res Artis by way of membership. The Membership Intern acts as a key liaison for existing and potential Res Artis Members by actively recruiting and retaining our rapidly growing international membership base. This position plays an integral support role to the Res Artis Membership Manager and the Res Artis network by acting as the conduit between Member needs and strategic decision making. Tasks include researching potential new Members and delivering targeted approach campaigns; research into other residency networks and other arts and non-arts Member networks to determine Member benefits, working methods and outcomes that might be applied to Res Artis; and Member check-ins to make sure they are making the most of their membership benefits, what their needs and wish lists are, and most importantly how they are coping during these uncertain times.

Identify and respond to Member needs: 
Liaise with Res Artis Members to
 
develop and maintain a current and in-depth understanding of the needs of
 
Res Artis’ Members, and relay this information to Res Artis to develop
 
strategies that maximise the impact of the services Res Artis provides.

 
Research and Analysis:
Research into other residency networks and other
 
arts and non-arts Member networks to determine Member benefits, working
 
methods and outcomes that might be applied to Res Artis.
 
Extrapolation of Member data to determine statistics 
on Res Artis output,
 
outcomes and reach.

3. Research Internship

The position of Research Intern in Residence is a role focused on the growth and development of Res Artis by way of Research. The Research Intern will work with the Res Artis Executive Director to determine a research project of mutual interest.

Topics might include: Residencies for artists with special needs/families; new residency models as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic; First-Nations artistic exchange; data collection via surveys to develop key statistics for the field; or working on an essay, publication, anthology, etc. The recipient will be well-guided by the Res Artis team and have access to existing research, documentation and data.

They will have the opportunity to liaise with relevant local and international stakeholders. The tasks and ways to interact with our organisation through research are limitless, and this role will be tailored to the successful candidate’s prior experience and desire to learn new skills and knowledge. 4. Special Projects Internship

The position of Special Projects Intern in Residence is a role focused on the growth and development of Res Artis by way of the planning, delivery and evaluation of Res Artis Special Projects. Our Special Projects include in-person and virtual conferences, workshops, webinars, publications, digital learning and consultation services, often in partnership with local and international organisations and artists.

The Special Projects Intern will work with Res Artis staff and often external Steering Committees to plan the logistics and programming; deliver the project; and evaluate the success of the project on completion. Tasks include research, data collection, administering registration processes, responding to project enquiries, promoting the project, practical/hands-on assistance with set up and delivery, and conducting evaluation or sector engagement surveys. The role of Special Projects Intern is best suited to those with a broad skill set ranging from communications work, administration and project delivery. The recipient will be guided and well-supported by the Res Artis team. It is a fantastic opportunity to deep-dive into a concrete project and see it through its duration.

Time and Organisational Management: 
Develop a Project Timeline that
 
includes key milestones to reach during the planning, delivery and evaluation
 
of Res Artis Special Projects. Manage your time effectively and multi-task to
 
work on different aspects of an overall project.

 
Member, participant and partner liaison:
 Liaise with Res Artis members,
 
project participants and partners in a timely and professional manner that
 
progresses project delivery and that takes into account member and audience
 
needs to maximise the impact of the services and outreach that Res Artis
 
provides.
 
Research, Data Collection & Evaluation: 
Project-related research and data
 
collection to determine relevant programming and outreach. Extrapolation of
 
survey, member and project participant data to determine statistics on Res
 
Artis output, outcomes and reach.
 
Administration: 
Help manage the administration related to Res Artis Special
 
Projects such as answering enquiries, managing registrations, collating
 
speaker documents etc.
 
Overview and attention to detail: 
Pay attention to details whilst
 
simultaneously working towards a core project vision.
 
Practical and Lateral approaches:
Provide hands-on on-the-ground or
 
remote assistance as required, while simultaneously troubleshooting, adapting
 
and using lateral thinking and creative solutions.

We are a small but hard-working, passionate and nimble team that is excited by international engagement and cross-cultural understanding. An internship plan will be developed jointly by the Intern in Residence and Res Artis staff to ensure a shared vision and mutually beneficial experience. Interaction during working hours will be accompanied by weekly meetings to evaluate and adapt the internship experience. A brief evaluation report will be finalised by both parties on completion of the internship experience.

Requirements:
● Strong administration and organisational skills, with the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team. An ability to work with autonomy, discretion and confidentiality.
● Strong technical skills in various online communication platforms (Mail Chimp, WordPress, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), Sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc) & Zoom.
● Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal English language communication skills and the ability to effectively provide information to a range of different people across different regions and liaise with diverse stakeholders.
● Versatility, flexibility, enthusiasm and a high level of self–motivation and initiative. Ability to problem–solve, think laterally and exercise judgement.
