South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO)

Shaping Europe for SMEs, shaping SMEs for Europe.
SMEunited, formally known as UEAPME, is the association of crafts and SMEs in Europe with around 70 member organisations from over 30 European countries. SMEunited is a recognised employers’ organisation and European Social Partner and acts on behalf of crafts and SMEs in the European Social Dialogue and in discussions with the EU institutions.
We represent national cross-sectoral Craft and SME federations, European SME branch organisations and associate members. We speak on behalf of the 24 million SMEs in Europe which employ almost 95 million people.  We are a non-profit seeking and non-partisan organisation.
The 24 million SMEs in Europe count for 99,8% of all enterprises, 2/3 of employment and close to 60% of the added value created in the European Union.  These enterprises play a decisive role in Europe’ s economy and society, are driver of innovation and ensure social and regional stability.

SMEunited has three main tasks in giving SMEs a voice at European level:
● Representing the interest of SMEs towards the European Institutions, other stakeholders and in the Social Dialogue.
● Networking and capacity building.
● Projects.
SMEunited is operative in various sector activities, granting a direct connection to the specific needs and interests of business branches.

These activities are managed by the following fora:
● Construction Forum
● Cosmetic Forum
● Food Forum
● Transport Forum
● Retail forum
SMEunited participates in various projects – as project leader or project team member. The up-to-date list of projects run with the participation of SMEunited can be found here. SBS is a specific project of SMEunited (founding and main partner) and is a European not-for-profit association established with the support of the European Commission to represent European SMEs in the standard making process at European and international levels. The SBS goal is to represent and defend SME interests in the standardisation process at European and international level.

Our Mission
SMEunited’s mission is shaping Europe for SMEs and shaping SMEs for Europe. We act to create an SME friendly climate in the European Union in which SMEs can thrive. We build capacity with SMEunited’s member organisations and entrepreneurs across Europe, so that SMEs benefit from the opportunities offered by the European Union.

Our main objectives include:
● Monitoring the EU policy and legislative process and keeping our members informed on all matters of European Union policy of relevance to crafts and SMEs.
● Representing and promoting the interests of Crafts & SMEs to the EU institutions and other international organisations.
● Supporting our members academically, technically and legally on all areas of EU policy.
● Supporting the idea of European integration and contributing to European co-operation.

Our strategy
As the Crafts and SMEs association in Europe, SMEunited acts as an ’agenda setter’ in the area of European SME policy. We have a direct role in all EU policy that has an effect on SMEs. This is made possible through the maintenance of direct links and contact with the EU institutions and strengthened by our status as a Social Partner. Some of the key legislative areas in which we are active include: economic and fiscal policy, employment and social policy, environmental policy, enterprise policy, single market, legal affairs, and R&D.

Committees, Working Groups and Task Forces
SMEunited Committees have been set up to give our members the opportunity to discuss European SME policy and direct the lobbying work of the secretariat. These committees are composed of experts nominated by the member associations. As such the Committees have a dual task:
● Exchange information on challenges entrepreneurs and craftsmen are facing on the ground in the different countries.
● Debate and analyse proposed EU legislation and arrive at a consensual opinion on these proposals.
Internship Tasks
Support with general activities, such as document sorting, data collection, translation, basic website maintenance, social media, project management, communication and event help, etc.
The specific content of the internship depends on the needs at that time.
