Institute for Central American Development Studies (ICADS)

The Institute for Central American Development Studies (ICADS) is a center for    and study, research, and analysis of Central American social and environmental issues. Since 1986, we focus on economic development, politics, environmental studies, sustainable development, public health, women’s issues, education, human rights, and conservation.

Vision
Our programs aim to increase understanding of the region within a historical perspective; to develop a theoretical framework for the analysis of root causes, forms and dimensions of underdevelopment and injustice; to stimulate critical evaluation of current development strategies, analyzing their effects on women, children, the poor, and the environment; and to search for alternative methods, policies, and strategies.

Mission
ICADS mission is to educate participants about Central America by teaching Spanish and by offering academic programs that utilize a theoretically critical perspective as well as hands-on experience to help students deepen insights into current social, political and economic realities and their effects on the environment and society, especially the poor and marginalized.

Support
ICADS supports local organizations and communities by demonstrating a commitment to learning about local social justice issues. Through volunteer work and financial support, we support local education, healthcare, human rights, anti-hunger and environmental issues.
Understand
ICADS strives to increase the understanding of Central America learning through historical perspectives, analyzing root causes, studying inequality and injustice, evaluating current development strategies, studying issues on women, children, poverty, the poor, and the environment.
Our team is made up of experts committed to your academic success, health, and safety. Many of us have spent decades working with US students in Central America, and in topics related to our academic work. Many of us, both North and Central Americans, are bilingual, and we all love working cross culturally with students like you in our tropical context.
Internship Tasks (2 different jobs):

1 – SOCIAL MEDIA AND MARKETING (Sectors Involved: Arts; Technology; Web Design; Marketing; Cross-Cultural communication)

ICADS’s current website is in English only. 
Your internship project is to translate this site into the Chinese language and create an interface so that the person who enters the website can choose whether they want to see the English version or the Chinese language version.

Description of potential work:
● Translation of all website text. 
● Maintenance, revision, and renewal of the webste.
● Discussion of how to promote ICADS through social networks.
● Make contributions of innovation with new proposals.

2- BOOKLET OF PAST INTERNSHIPS AND REAEARCH PROGRAM AT ICADS (Sectors Involved: Arts; Marketing; Technology; Translation; Cross-Cultural communication)

During each semester, ICADS students complete an internship or research project. 
In order to provide a tool for future Chinese students to better understand the type of experiences that ICADS promotes, the staff has selected a group of 10 previous experiences of students that are duly documented, that need to be translated into the Chinese language to be used as a advocacy tool by Global Cultural Adventurers, Inc (GCA), to promote future internships of Chinese students at ICADS. 

Description of potential work:
● Translation of documents from English to Chinese language.
● Help develop an appropriate introduction to booklet. 
● Make contributions of innovation with new proposals.

Requirements:
● Bachelor’s degree (completed/ongoing)
● Fluency in spoken and written English; English level that allows the student to coordinate with ICADS staff and translate semi-technical language.
● Strong interpersonal and English communicative skills
● Proficiency in MS software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power point)
● With innovative ideas and a desire to learn and understand cross-cultural interactions.
● Clear understanding of the ICADS Mission and Vision.
