Towards a new space of exchanges and interculturality.
The Afro-European concept is slow to prevail in Europe. Its development as a concept carried by the African diaspora, is light years away from its cousin: that of African Americans, codified culturally and historically in a museum in Washington. It must be said that the past between these two continents does not plead for a rapprochement. The young Moustapha Desfourneaux, at the door of no return to the House of Slaves in Goree, the grave area, like the great personalities who preceded him or anonymous, testifies to this historical burden. The recent controversy over the inauguration of the Place de l’Europe in Goree is another illustration.
And yet, we have chosen to promote this concept because it is a harbinger of a new era between the two continents. We knowingly break the lexical and grammatical rules from the moment when we do not consider the Afro particle as the identification of an origin (although we are all Africans!) But rather as the expression of acenter of interest around Africa in Europe. We play with words because our time is serious enough not to invent compound words that bring us together beyond our original differences and around common interests. We are reinventing the boundaries of identities!
Afro-Europeanism then becomes a common denominator to all!
Why the Institute in Paris?
There is no question of limiting our actions in Paris. These are aimed primarily at Africa and Europe. The Institute is registered in Paris, and wishes to take advantage of the prestige and global influence of this city.
Our logo, an expression of interculturality between Africa and Europe
Our logo expresses well by its colors, blue for Europe, black for Africa, and its letters C (in reference to culture), this system of interaction and mutual influence. The African diaspora plays a vital role.
